"Who Knew BABYMONSTER Was This Good?" World Tour 'CHOOM' Kicks Off in Seoul
BABYMONSTER officially launched its second world tour with a three-day concert at Seoul's Jamsil Indoor Stadium from June 26 to 28. Serving as the opening stop of the group's "CHOOM" tour, the group will travel to 18 cities across five continents following the conclusion of its Seoul performances.
Despite one of Seoul's hottest weekends of the summer so far, hundreds of fans gathered outside Jamsil Indoor Stadium hours before the concert, waiting to enter the venue for BABYMONSTER's final Seoul performance before the group departs overseas for the remainder of its world tour.
All three Seoul concerts sold out, prompting YG Entertainment to open additional seats. According to the agency, the "CHOOM" tour was designed to create a festival-like atmosphere at every stop, with members participating in the setlist, song arrangements, and special stages prepared exclusively for the tour.
Outside the venue, fans waved lightsticks, posed in front of tour banners, and participated in fan-organized events while waiting to enter. Julia, a 15-year-old fan from Brazil who traveled to Seoul with her family, told K-POPIT she had discovered BABYMONSTER just two months ago. "What really attracted me to them was their styling and the way their songs sound," she told K-POPIT before heading into the venue alongside her parents.
Once inside the venue, as the lights went off, thousands of fans started screaming eager for the show to start. To build anticipation a VCR played through the screens, it was set up in a format in which it felt like you were meeting the characters of a racing video game as a loud edm track played through the background. Soon enough, the members opened in coordinated black outfits accented with silver details as live band instrumentation introduced "We Go Up." The elevated center platform, combined with synchronized choreography and loud fan chants, immediately established the concert's high-energy atmosphere.
Without pause, BABYMONSTER continued with "CHOOM" before transitioning into "Batter Up." Throughout the opening set, the moving center platform became a recurring stage element, while members showcased sharp facial expressions and high-energy. Following "Drip," the members paused to greet the audience and reflect on opening their second world tour in Seoul and to greet fans on a more personal level.
"It’s been a while since we have performed in Seoul hasn't it?" Pharita said, nodding to their previous tour "HELLO MONSTER" which had taken place over a year and a half ago. Asa chimed up afterwards and added, "The energy is passionate in here, since it's our last day let's give it our all"
As with the "HELLO MONSTER" tour, each member presented an individual stage highlighting different musical influences and performance styles. Rora revisited Camila Cabello's "Havana," the same song she auditioned with for YG Entertainment in 2018. Now, eight years later she presents a completely different version from what it was back then, filled with confidence and a clear growth. Asa combined rap and dance in a performance of "Temple" featuring Japanese-inspired styling and choreography, while Pharita delivered a rendition of Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass," turning a karaoke favorite into a more polished and fun version of the track.
Perhaps two of the most memorable solo stages came from Chiquita and Ruka. Chiquita's mashup of "Buttons" and "Worth It" showcased both her charisma and confidence on stage, while Ruka's performance of "Ratata" highlighted the powerful performance style she has become known for while also mixing rap and dance. In a relatively short amount of time, both stages not only reflected their individual strengths and musical interests but also helped distinguish their identities within BABYMONSTER as performers.
Lastly, Ahyeon performed Ariana Grande's "Problem," a song known for its demanding vocal range. She introduced a rearranged version that placed greater emphasis on her upper register, allowing her to demonstrate her vocal ability throughout the performance. While the arrangement occasionally appeared to push her voice during some of the highest sections, her confident rap delivery stood out as one of the defining moments of the stage
Returning in coordinated baby-pink outfits, the concert shifted toward a more vocal-focused set with "Stuck In The Middle" and "Dream." After an intensive first half filled with choreography, some vocal fatigue became noticeable during portions of the ballad section, though the group's energy recovered through "Locked In." Furthermore, during "Really Like You," the members moved away from tightly synchronized choreography, instead spending more time interacting with both one another and the audience.
"Beginning the World Tour feels more special in Seoul, I will repay you with great shows in all the cities that we are visiting" - Ahyeon
"Billionare," "Forever" and "Wild" followed with the audience's fanchants getting louder than at the beginning as the members encouraged the fans to jump and more confetti blew out of the cannons. The girls began to wrap up the second-half of the show giving their final mentions alongside performing one of their most popular songs "Hot Sauce," and "I Like It" also alongside their most recent release "Sugar Honey Ice Tea" which prompted the thousands of fans who were already standing up to jump and dance in their seats.
"Thinking about the new memories that we will make together got me thrilled" - Ruka talking about beginning the World Tour.
The seven members returned to the encore wearing tour merchandise alongside their individually designed character plushies for the encore. The encore concluded with remix versions of "Batter Up" and "Sheesh" before the group closed the night with "I Like It." With the Seoul leg now complete, BABYMONSTER will continue the "CHOOM" world tour across Asia before expanding to North America, Europe, Oceania, and South America later this year.
