Korean star Bae Yong-joon is back in the spotlight, even without a new project. New photos and videos of the actor on a family vacation in Singapore are spreading across social media, drawing fresh attention to a star who stepped away from acting more than 15 years ago.

The images, which began circulating on Korean social media and online communities in recent days, show Bae and his wife, actress Park Soo-jin, aboard a Disney Adventure cruise out of Singapore. In one video, Bae is seen carrying the family's luggage and looking after their bags himself. Park is shown taking care of their children alongside him.

What caught the most attention online was Bae's new look. With his hat off, his long hair, now streaked with gray, was tied back in a low ponytail. The photos showed an off-duty version of the star rather than a polished public figure, and fans seemed to welcome the change.

This is not the first time Bae's low-key life has gone viral. Last month, a Singaporean outlet reported that Bae and Park had traveled to Singapore with fellow actors Park Shin-hye and Choi Tae-joon, who are also married. The two families were reported to have boarded the same Disney Adventure cruise together for a family trip.

Photos of Bae taken at Changi Airport around that time also drew heavy attention. The gray hair peeking out from under his cap and his relaxed appearance sparked a wave of online comments. Some fans wrote that they could feel the passage of time. Others said he still looked unmistakably like Bae Yong-joon.

The fact that a single set of vacation photos can dominate Korean entertainment headlines speaks to the staying power of Bae's name. His role in the 2002 drama "Winter Sonata" turned him into one of the defining faces of the Hallyu wave across Asia. In Japan, where fans called him "Yonsama," his popularity reached the level of a social phenomenon.

His on-screen career, however, largely ended with a 2011 cameo on the KBS 2TV drama "Dream High." Since then, he has rarely appeared in broadcasts or at public events.

Instead, Bae has built a second career as a businessman and investor. He once grew the talent agency KEYEAST into a major Hallyu player before handing over management control to SM Entertainment in 2018, after which he focused on investment work. He is now listed as a major shareholder of Blitzway Entertainment, a company whose acting roster includes Ju Ji-hoon, Chun Woo-hee, Doh Kyung-soo, and Moon Chae-won. The company has been expanding into K-pop as well.

Bae may have stopped acting, but he has not stopped being a star. The fact that a few candid vacation photos can still drive headlines shows how much weight the name "Yonsama" continues to carry, more than two decades after "Winter Sonata" first introduced him to the rest of Asia.
