Song Hye-kyo Parts Ways With UAA After 14 Years, Plans Solo Agency
In a statement released on June 26, UAA said its exclusive contract with Song Hye-kyo had recently expired. "After a long time built on mutual trust, UAA and Song Hye-kyo have decided to wrap up our journey together and support each other's future paths," the company said.
The agency added that its time with the actor would remain a happy memory. "We ask fans for their warm interest, encouragement, and love as Song Hye-kyo stands at a new starting line," UAA said.
Song Hye-kyo signed with UAA, short for United Artist Agency, in November 2012. The same day the split was announced, a Korean outlet reported that the actor plans to launch her own one-person agency following her departure from UAA. One-person agencies, in which a single high-profile actor sets up a personal management company, have become a common path for veteran stars in Korea who want more control over project selection and business decisions.
Song Hye-kyo is one of the most recognizable names in Korean television, known internationally for dramas including "Descendants of the Sun" and "The Glory." Her next project is the Netflix series "Tantara" (Cheoncheonhi Gangnyeolhage), which is set for release.
The move signals a shift for an actor whose career has long been tied to one of Korea's most established management houses. As more top-tier Korean stars take their careers in-house, Song Hye-kyo's next step will be watched closely across the industry.
