SEVENTEEN's V8 Opens Debut Era With DJ-Style Listening Event

One day before the release of its debut mini album, SEVENTEEN's new unit V8 transformed a venue in Itaewon, Seoul, into a DJ-style listening party, giving fans a first look at the duo's musical direction ahead of the official launch of "V8" on June 29.

The release party featured the first public playback of all eight tracks from the album in a club-inspired setting at Grain Haus in Itaewon, Seoul. THE 8 also stepped behind the DJ booth during the event, while collaborators including Mechatok and KIRARA joined the lineup, highlighting the electronic influences that shaped the album for this duo.

The eight-track album, led by title track "singasong," explores the themes of wandering, uncertainty, recovery, and growth through a concept of "consumed youth." THE 8 and Vernon took an active role in producing the album alongside global collaborators which included Pharrell Williams, Mechatok, KIRARA, and Dylan Brady.The release party reflected the duo's desire to introduce fans to the album's atmosphere before its official launch. Speaking through PLEDIS Entertainment, THE 8 described "V8" as "a meaningful album filled with Vernon and my own colors and tastes," adding that the pair experimented with electronic music and multiple languages throughout the project.

Explaining the album's central theme, Vernon said they wanted to tell an honest story through their own experiences. "As we tried to capture the time we've lived through and who we are today, the keyword 'youth' naturally came to mind," he said. "The image of V8 moving forward using youth as its fuel eventually became the theme of 'consumed youth.'"

The members also emphasized how the project pushed them creatively. "Showing the creative world that belongs to Vernon and me was the most important thing," THE 8 said. "Finding the middle ground between our different tastes wasn't always easy, but we learned a lot through that process." This was clearly demonstrated at the release party as both members also took turns spinning various songs asides the ones on their mini-album.

Vernon also added that stepping outside their comfort zone became one of the album's defining themes. "Rather than choosing familiar methods, I wanted to try something new," he said. "It was a challenge, but I learned and grew a lot."

The club-style listening party reflected the duo's emphasis on experimentation throughout the album. With collaborators from the project's production also participating in the event, V8 offered fans an early look at the electronic sound and creative direction that THE 8 and Vernon say represent both their "growth" and willingness to embrace "challenge."
