Byun Yo-han, Esom Wrap Crime Film "Pamun" for 2027 Release

Korean crime film "Pamun" has finished shooting and entered post-production, with a theatrical release set for 2027. The film, a working-title project from first-time commercial feature director Kim Sun-kyung, is produced by Star Platinum.

"Pamun" follows the Kwon family of Yedong, a clan that has run a dangerous illegal business for generations. When the eldest grandson dies, a fight breaks out over who will inherit his place. The story digs into the family's traditional patriarchal order and the power struggles inside it, using the characters' desires and conflicts as its engine.

Byun Yo-han plays Park Ki-tae, a man who has given more to the family than to his own life. Looking back on the shoot, he said every scene felt urgent. "Every moment we built a scene on set, it was fierce, and we made it together with the director, the actors, and the crew under real tension," he said. He added that he hopes the work the team put in reaches audiences as a full range of emotions when the film opens.

Esom plays Kwon So-hyun, the eldest daughter of the Kwon family. "So-hyun is a character who really has to hold the center, and she had to keep her rhythm and emotions in sync with the senior actors all the way to the end, so I couldn't relax for a second," she said. She added that she hopes the effort from the cast and crew comes through clearly for viewers in theaters.

Kim Jun-han, who plays the eldest grandson Kwon Do-young, said the wrap still hasn't quite hit him. "Every time a project ends, it doesn't really sink in that it's over, but on this one the whole crew and cast threw themselves into it, and there were so many scenes that demanded everything from us," he said. "It feels like it just suddenly ended. I think we really did try to make something good. Please look forward to it."

Kim Jong-soo plays the uncle, Kwon Byung-ryeol. "Every shoot is like this. You start with big hopes and try to add to the final product, but there's always something you wish you'd done better, and at the same time there's the relief of finishing another one. Those feelings overlap," he said.

Director Kim developed the project for more than six years. "I worked on this story for over six years, and during that time I couldn't really picture myself finishing the film," she said. "Now that principal photography is done, there's this real sense that the movie is actually being made." She credited the cast and crew for carrying the production this far and said she would push through post-production to bring it to audiences.

"Pamun" marks Kim's first commercial feature. She wrote and directed the film, with director Byun Sung-hyun credited as co-writer. The film is scheduled to open in 2027 after post-production.
